ARTWORK
I like life to be multimedia and non-digital as often as it can. So whenever the plastic arts can tell my stories - instead of photos or video - I'll let it. I also have dreams of becoming a serious patron of the arts someday. Here is where I store the artwork used for the telling of Lightfoot Odyssey. I encourage you to add 'my artists' to your patronage portfolio too.
HOLLY COWIE

Holly is my friend, and also a children's writer and illustrator. I am camera-shy and thought it might feel comfy to hide behind my illustrated self for a bit. So I commissioned Holly to draw me in five poses/moods I might find myself in over the course of my walk. She also painted two contrasting landscapes into which my avatars can be dropped. Standing proud at the helm of my very own Homeric galley is the situation in which I am least likely to find myself. But do take note of the figurehead on the galley. The honey badger. The most determined spirit in the animal kingdom, she takes on predators as if they were prey. I hope to channel some of her strength.

HELENA CALLINICOS

Helena is a prolific painter of Ithaka-related subjects. She is also my best friend (see Why Ithaka). I asked her if I could use some of her paintings and etchings from time to time, to illustrate aspects of Lightfoot Odyssey. The painting below was not in fact inspired by Ithaka but by a recent visit to Zimbabwe. It is entitled Water from Below (oil on paper, 2022) because it resembles the school emblem of Chisipite Senior School in Harare. The emblem is a fountain of water, and chisipite means 'spring', or 'water from below', in Shona. To me, the painting is of the eternal abundance of natural things.

Untitled, c.2010
Subjects are me, Baba (Helena's sister) and some goats with olive tree
