LIGHTFOOT OBJECTIVE 3
LEARN
CORE PRINCIPLES
As a person of extremes, I either get ecstatically energised or morbidly demoralised the more I learn about a subject. Generally, when I I expose myself to environmental issues, it is the latter that dominates. But I plan to change this! Through Lightfoot Odyssey, I hope to find the individuals and communities, great and small, who are adapting to the challenges around environmental sustainability. I hope to come away with a compendium of sustainability best-practices that I can apply to my own life and can share with others.

WHAT I WILL DO
1. Research local environmental practices and innovations
2. Find out about people's attitudes to specific issues relating to sustainability
3. Share what I learn

HOW I WILL DO THIS

-
Visit educational institutions to observe how they are adapting towards more sustainable practices and ‘greening’ their curricula
-
Visit cultural spaces to observe their sustainability practices
-
Meet entrepreneurs who are innovating sustainable products
-
Visit waste facilities to observe the waste stream in flow

-
Ask local people/businesses questions on a range of sustainability issues, including:

- What they consider to be the greatest sustainability challenge we face collectively
- To which areas of sustainability they feel they can most meaningfully respond
- How easy it is to minimise consuming disposable plastics in daily life
- If and how they are changing their diets in response to sustainability issues with food production and distribution
- How easy it is to find locally-produced food and drink
- How easy it is to get free-range meat, eggs and dairy products
- How much meat and dairy people consider 'a sustainable amount'
- If food supply changes seasonally- How changes to the climate are impacting people’s lives directly
- How easy it is to switch to low-carbon transportation (electric vehicles, cycling, walking)-
- How local flora and fauna have changed over the years
- What local sustainability initiatives they can point me towards

-
Talk to anyone and everyone about their relationship with the environment and their experiences with sustainability
-
Share my experiences as much as I can on my website and social media
IDEAS FOR DOWN THE LINE
-
Visit schools/places of learning to talk about ultra-low-impact living/travelling
-
Facilitate a travelling environmental film festival
