INTRODUCING THE FITZPLASTICKS
I am overjoyed to announce that the Fitzplasticks have agreed to accompany me on Lightfoot Odyssey as my official plastic-minimal consultants! They will be my guiding lights when it comes to which plastics to engage with and which to avoid. They aren't afraid to shame, so I'll do my best to stick to their recommendations. They'll also lead the curation of The Packaging Gallery - a riveting exhibition of the items I use with their packaging!
WHO ARE THE FITZPLASTICKS?
I first met the Fitzplasticks in November 2020. Based in Bristol and appalled by the plastic pollution crisis, they had decided to unite as a family and go plastic minimal. Ironically, they are made of plastic. So it's not that they hate all plastic - but they are deeply offended by its misuse and overuse, especially in the form of single-use plastic.

In January 2021, the Fitzplasticks started an instagram account. They spent hours setting up photoshoots - self-portraits showing their interactions with various single-use plastic items. As tiny people, these items took on a whole new perspective.
On instagram, they'd post their photos and @ the companies responsible for the offending plastic items, asking them what they were doing to adapt away from single-use plastic packaging. Sometimes they got a response!

It was a fine way to spend the cold months of Covid. They were expending some creative energy AND being living room activists. Here are some of their favourite pieces.

The Fitzplasticks wanderlusting with Enya
Since July 2021, the Fitzplasticks have been relatively quiet. This is because they have been travelling a lot. And while you'd think that travelling would mean lots of opportunity to meet new and interesting single-use plastic items with whom to pose, they just didn't have the time for their art. The set up alone on a photo shoot could take anything up to four hours.

But I am delighted that the Fitzplasticks will be my Lightfoot Odyssey companions. They may not be posting all that much themselves, but their support will be key to me reaching my ultra-low-impact goals.
